Allegations have been made against National Federation Party Leader Professor Biman Prasad accusing him of not keeping his promises that he had allegedly made with a family in Nabua.
Speaking to Fijivillage, a resident of Fiji Muslim League settlement in Nabua, Avinesh Chand, made these allegations stating that Prasad had promised to help him with materials to rebuild his house which was destroyed in a fire in 2016.
Chand claims a week after the tragedy, the NFP Leader had come at around seven in the evening and had drunk grog with him and about ten other people to until 11pm.
Chand says at the time he had taken shelter at a neighbor’s home and was in dire need of help to rebuild his home.
He says the NFP Leader had been informed of his plight by someone wanting to help and Prasad had come with parliamentarian Prem Singh, NFP’s Dalip Kumar as well as some other people.
Chand claims that Prasad had told him to provide a list of building materials and had promised to help.
Chand further says that because of Prasad’s promises, all the other people who would have helped him rebuild his home had taken a step back thinking Prasad was helping.
He adds that at the time he was facing financial difficulties but was made to run around to Prasad’s office where he gave the list of building materials and followed up on the progress for about two weeks.
Chand says during this time he did not meet with Prasad again but dealt with the office staff there who kept promising that assistance would be provided.
Chand says he is speaking out now because the NFP Leader has been saying in his campaign meetings that he has helped a lot of people but Chand stresses that Prasad did not help him after promising to do so.
When contacted by Fijivillage, Biman Prasad has denied these allegations saying that he did not make any such promises. He also did not confirm whether he had gone to Chand’s house and had taken the list of building materials on a later date.
Prasad says he has personally called Ministers about individual problems.
He says he thinks this is all strategy by FijiFirst operatives to discredit the National Federation Party.
