The Ministry of Health has confirmed that patients who are given numbers while waiting at hospitals and health centres are served on the same day.
After claims of people bypassing other patients who had been waiting at a health centre earlier to be seen by a doctor, a Health Ministry official has clarified that at all out patient departments in hospitals and health centres, patients are given a number and this system is followed by nurses and doctors when serving patients.
The Health Ministry says that those patients issued a pink slip can bypass patients with numbers as they are only there to be seen by a nurse who is assigned to administer the patient an injection or a dressing for a wound.
It has also stressed that only emergency cases are seen by the doctors ahead of those patients waiting with numbers adding that the hospitals and health centres do not serve patients with numbers from the previous day as claimed by some.
