The trial of a man accused of raping a 4-year-old girl at a pre‑school last year started in the Suva High Court this morning.
He was a handyman at the pre‑school when he allegedly raped the student last August.
The alleged incident happened in the day in the school premises when the girl was with the handyman unsupervised.
The man was 38 years old at the time.
In her opening address today, State Prosecutor Kimberly Semisi said they will be calling five witnesses.
The prosecution witnesses are the girl and her mother, a counselor, the investigating officer and medical officer.
The girl will take the witness stand today in a closed court hearing.
The trial is expected to take about four days.
