Government supporting 5,157 recipients through Disability Allowance Program - Minister Vuniwaqa

Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Mereseini Vuniwaqa says currently the Government is financially supporting 5,157 recipients through the Disability Allowance Program. 

Vuniwaqa says the Government has also funded free bus fare programs, monthly allowances to over 1,500 persons, housing assistance, educational advancements and providing schemes to benefit the vulnerable while ensuring that no Fijian is left behind.

According to the Bureau of Statistics 113,595 people who make up 13.7% of Fiji’s population have at least one form of disability.  

The Minister congratulated the Pacific Disability Forum for encouraging Pacific Island Countries’ leaders in strengthening their commitments to tackle barriers faced by persons with disabilities.
