The first funerals for the victims of the mosque attacks are expected as early as today.
The bodies of those killed last Friday are starting to be returned to their families.
In a press conference this morning Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has said the New Zealand government will cover the burial costs of those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks at two mosques in Christchurch.
Arden says police presence will continue to be high until they feel certain people are safe and has reaffirmed there will be changes to gun laws and she will be taking the discussion to cabinet today.
Meanwhile, the Head boy of a Christchurch school is bringing the city's students together to pay their respects to victims of the mosque shootings.
Six people associated with Cashmere High School in were killed or injured in the attacks.
Head boy Okirano Tilaia was one of 140 students baking food for the victims' families and emergency services over the weekend.
New Zealand’s Ministry of Education's trauma team would also be at Cashmere High School this morning to support students.
