The Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji, Faizul Ariff Ali is now the acting Governor of RBF.
The Constitutional Offices Commission has stated that following the expiry of the term of Barry Whiteside as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji, the President, on the advice of the Prime Minister as Chair of the Constitutional Offices Commission pursuant to the powers delegated to the Chair of the Constitutional Offices Commission, has appointed Ali, to act as the Governor of RBF for a period of 3 months or until a substantive appointment is made.
Further, section 15(3) of the Reserve Bank of Fiji Act 1983 states that in the event of a vacancy arising in the office of the Governor or the absence or incapacity of the Governor from whatever cause arising, the Deputy Governor appointed shall have and may exercise all the powers and functions of the Governor.
