The behaviour of drivers is a major concern for the Fiji Police Force.

Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra says when they conducted an  in-depth analysis on traffic infringement, traffic accidents, general accidents and road fatalities, and a major indication given to them on why the incidents happened was the ignorance, negligence and bad behaviour of drivers.

He says the analysis indicates that these drivers have a bad driving behavior and are committing serious traffic offences.

Mishra says some of the drivers were taken to task or given traffic infringements for various charges but unfortunately that habit never changed.

Mishra stresses that every death that has occurred on the roads are a major concern for the Fiji Police Force.

He says they are working with the Land Transport Authority in terms of joint operation and also sharing of information on how best they can deal with the habitual offenders and those with bad driving behaviour.

Mishra says they cannot reduce the death toll alone, as this will take a collective and a multi sector approach which will  include various stakeholders that are also responsible for  road safety and another key player are the road users.
