The Western Division has recorded 21 of the 37 deaths recorded on our roads this year.

A Western Division task force has now been set up within the Fiji Police Force to focus on an awareness campaign targeting drivers at all hours of the day around the Namaka area in Nadi.

Deputy Police Commander West SP Abdul Khan says this road safety awareness campaign is part of Operation Veisiko.

Khan says last year the Western Division recorded 31 out of 60 road fatalities in Fiji.

He says they will be relentless in disseminating the message about road safety.

Khan says the cooperation of drivers to allow officers a few minutes to discuss road safety will have a positive impact on road safety in the Western Division.

However, he says that it would be up to the individual and all road users whether they would want to take the advice seriously or otherwise.
