The family of a former Nadi businessman Mohammed Kaiyum is demanding answers from the Health Ministry after he did not get urgent medical attention when he visited the Nadi Hospital on the 8th of this month.
Kaiyum passed away at the emergency unit.
Speaking to Fijivillage, Kaiyum’s son Muqtadeer Saif Kaiyum says they are planning to take the matter further as they have video evidence to show that the nurses on duty did not take urgent action when his father had severe chest pain for more than three hours.
He says that they took their father to Nadi Hospital’s emergency department at about 7am on the 8th of June.
Muqtadeer says that no one wanted to attend to his father until about 10.30 that morning.
A video which is now posted on Facebook shows the 49-year-old man in extreme pain, calling for immediate medical attention.
A nurse is seen in the video walking past him a few times however she does not respond to Kaiyum’s repeated calls for assistance.
Muqtadeer claims that the ECG report shows that his father suffered a heart attack that morning.
His father passed away at the emergency unit on the 9th of June.
Muqtadeer says they are speaking to a lawyer and will take this matter further.
Health Minister Jone Usamate has told Fijivillage that they are looking into the issue and he has received the initial report.
A full statement is expected today.
