Vana said in caution interview that he regrets what he did and misses his brother

Aisake Vana Junior is charged with one count of manslaughter

A man charged with killing his younger brother last year after an argument over a bowl of dhal said in his police caution interview that he regretted what he did and misses his brother.

Aisake Vana Junior is charged with one count of manslaughter.

He allegedly stabbed his brother Suliasi Veisere on the 5th of April, 2016 at their family home in Kalabu.

While taking the stand today, Police Detective Sergeant Vinod Chand of Valelevu Police Station said that Aisake Vana gave his answers voluntarily during the caution interview.

Chand read the caution interview where Vana said that he was at home with family members on the day of the incident.

Vana said that he was cooking rice and dhal in the kitchen when his younger brother Suliasi Veisere woke up.

He said that they then started arguing about the dhal.

Vana said in the caution interview that Veisere came and started saying that Vana is not buying any food and he is a church boy.

Vana said that he told his younger brother that it’s none of his business.

Vana said that they punched each other and he does not know how the knife landed on Veisere’s back.

He said that he did not know that he had stabbed his younger brother as they were punching each other.

Their father woke up and stopped the fight.

Vana said that he was using the knife in the kitchen when he went running to Veisere.

He said in his caution interview that he did not know that the knife will hit him and kill him.

Vana has pleaded not guilty before High Court Judge Justice Vinsent Perera.

The prosecution has closed its case.

Vana will take the stand today.
