Update on school closures

Update on school closures

By Semi Turaga
Wednesday 11/04/2018

In the Western Division, all schools in Rakiraki, Ba and Tavua will remain closed for tomorrow 12 April 2018. Schools in Nadi, Lautoka and Sigatoka will be opened for classes tomorrow with the exception of the Lomolomo Public School, the Lovu Sangam School and the Naidovi Primary School which are still being used as evacuation centres.

Schools in the Eastern Division will remain open with the exception of those schools on Kadavu.

All schools in the Northern and Central divisions will be open for classes tomorrow.

Due to heavy rains during the day, parents throughout the country are advised to use their own discretion and assess flood conditions in their area prior to sending their children to school.

All teachers staffed at schools that are open for classes are expected to attend work tomorrow. However, teachers living in areas badly affected by Tropical Cyclone Keni should also evaluate flood conditions in their area before returning to work.

The Ministry of Education and disaster officials will continue to monitor the situation and provide regular updates as to when all schools can be safely reopened for students and teachers.
