Police are urging parents and guardians to closely monitor their children in light of the current weather situation as this is not a time to be playing in flooded areas.
This comes as a 15-year-old student and a 3-year-old boy lost their lives in separate incidents over the long weekend.
The 15-year-old student was swept away by strong currents while swimming with his older brother at Naselai Beach in Tailevu.
Police say the victim's body was found yesterday by a man from Vadrai Village in Nakelo.
In the second incident, a 3-year-old boy lost his life after he slipped into a drain in Lovoni Village in Ovalau on Sunday morning.
Police say it is alleged that the boy tried to jump over the drain but slipped and hit the drain.
Mariners are also urged not to make unnecessary travel, particularly on small boats to avoid tragedy.
Police say by doing so, people do not only put their lives in danger but that of others who will have to conduct the search and rescue operations.
People can call the Police National Command Center on 9905 296 if they need assistance.
