Team Fiji has won another gold medal in weightlifting in the Pacific Games today.
Tevita Tawai won gold in the 69kg clean and jerk category.
This is Fiji’s fourth gold medal through weightlifting.
Fiji weightlifter Manueli Tulo won three gold medals for Fiji yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Fiji men’s basketball team has beaten American Samoa 68-57 in their fourth pool match in the Pacific Games.
The Fiji women’s cricket team also defeated Cook Islands by 71 runs.
Fiji chose to bat first and registered 167 runs in 20 overs.
In reply, Cook Islands only managed 96 runs.
The Fiji swimming team will only be competing for 4 gold medals tonight.
Look out for Fiji’s Caroline Puamau tonight as she had the fastest time of 59.33 seconds in the heats of the 100 metres freestyle.
Matelita Buadromo and Cheyenne Rova will be competing in the 400 metres women’s individual Medley final, while Caroline Puamau and Matelita Buadromo will be swimming in the women’s 100 metres freestyle final.
William Clarke and Gordon Thompson will be competing in the 50 metres men’s backstroke final while Taichi Vakasama will swim in the 100 metres men’s breaststroke final.
The swimming finals are scheduled from 8 tonight.
Earlier today, veteran Fijian swimmer Carl Probert finished fourth in his 50 metres backstroke heat with a time of 29.29 seconds.
Team Fiji did not win any gold medals in swimming in the 2011 Pacific Games.
In the Va’a 6, the Fiji men and women are through to the finals of the 1,500 metres races.
The Fiji women’s soccer team will play their first match against PNG.
PNG is currently leading the Fijivillage Pacific Games medal tally with 6 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.
Fiji is in second place with 4 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze while New Caledonia is in third place with 3 gold and 2 bronze.
