Education Minister Dr. Mahendra Reddy says they have received complaints where teachers are still assigned by School Heads to distribute bus fare vouchers, sell in the school canteen and keep unnecessary files.
Reddy has strongly stated that this has to stop.
He says some School Heads are loading teachers with administrative and unnecessary paper work which diverts them from the core function, which is teaching.
He says School Heads were required to embrace initiatives that will lead to a reduction in paper work, however, this is not happening in most schools.
The Education Minister says quality time is still wasted on unnecessary administrative and paperwork and teachers are under pressure keeping and updating records.
He told the School Principals in 119th Fiji Principal’s Association Workshop that a parent of a prominent secondary school in Suva has raised issues whereby her child walked home from school because she did not receive the bus fare voucher as her Form teacher was absent from school.
Reddy has stated that they had made it very clear that this responsibility should be taken up by the appointed Administrative officers and teachers should not be loaded with this.
He says because of the negligence of School Heads, the parents are questioning the Ministry.
