It was sweet victory for the two winning schools from the Sugar City in this year’s Coca Cola Games.
Natabua High School has created history yesterday as they will take the boy’s division title for the first time to the western division while Jasper Williams High School has won the girl’s division title for the third year.
Looking at the final medal tally, Natabua won the boy’s division in style with 17 gold, 11 silver and 5 bronze, QVS is in second place with 9 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze, defending boy’s division champion Marist is in third place with 7 gold, 10 silver and 14 bronze while Suva Grammar School is in fourth place with 4 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze.
Natabua had told Fijivillage before the games that they were aiming to win 16 gold medals.
Defending girl’s division champion, Jasper successfully defended the title with 21 gold, 9 silver and 6 bronze, Adi Cakobau School is in second place with 7 gold, 17 silver and 9 bronze while Natabua finished in third place with 3 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze.
Saint Joseph’s Secondary School finished in fourth place with 3 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze.
Natabua Head Coach Sairusi Naituku said the athletes were drawing up plans from last night on how to celebrate their victory tonight and when they return to Lautoka with the 2015 Coca Cola Boys Division title.
Naituku said during their preparations they made sure they did not underestimate any team as they focused more on how they can win their events.
Naituku said they are proud to return home with the title.
Jasper Williams High School has given their Team Manager and Athletics Coach Antonio Raboiliku the best farewell present in this year’s Coca Cola Games.
Raboiliku said he is proud of the girls.
Raboiliku said most people do not know that the girls share the grounds with Natabua High to train for the Cokes and they have their brothers Natabua High to thank for that.
Lautoka City will have a major celebration for the double win in the 2015 Coca Cola Games.
This has been confirmed by the Lautoka City Council’s CEO, Jone Nakauvadra as Natabua High will take the boy’s title to the western division for the first time while defending girls division champions Jasper Williams High School has won the title for the third time in a row.
Nakauvadra thanked the school coaches and the students for their hard work.
Nakauvadra said they will have talks with the schools, and other stakeholders including the business community before having the celebrations after the school holidays.
He highlights they may have a march through the city and will work together to make some donations in cash and kind for the schools and the athletes involved.
Batinisavu Uluiyata of Natabua High won three gold medals in this year’s Coke Games.
He anchored the Natabua 4x400 metres Senior Boys Relay race and helped the team win the last event in the games.
Uluiyata also won gold in the Senior Boy’s 200 metres final.
Uluiyata beat 100 metres champion, Aaron Powell of Gospel.
Powell had to settle for silver while Penijamini Narube of RKS took the bronze medal.
Batinisavu Uluiyata who is also the captain of the team said although he was up against Aaron Powell who won the Blue Ribbon Senior Boys event last night, he was focused to win gold for Natabua.
Gospel High School sprinter, Younis Bese has claimed her second gold medal in this year’s Coca Cola Games in style.
Bese smiled to the finish line in the Senior Girl’s 200 metres final and also set a new record of 24.68 seconds.
She broke her own record which she had set on Friday.
Bese said she is still excited after her win from Friday night in the Blue Ribbon Senior Girls event and her win yesterday in the 200 metres is an added boost for her.
Alaiwalu Rayawa of ACS took the silver while Miriama Naiobasali of Jasper is taking home the bronze.
Meanwhile Natabua High School’s Jope Loloma claimed the gold medal in the Junior Boy’s 100 metres.
Joseva Tabakoucoro of Marist came in second while Natabua’s James Cox took the bronze medal.
Mustafa Fall of Marist Brothers High School has won his second gold in the 2015 Coca Cola Games.
Fall also broke the record in the Senior Boys Discus.
His record throw was 49.72 metres.
Fall won the Senior Boy’s Shot Put event and broke the record on Friday.
Meanwhile Sireli Rokoilo took gold in the Senior Boy’s High Jump for the Red Fire camp.
Poasa Setoqi of Marist took silver while Aisake Raibe of DAV College Ba took the bronze medal.
The Sub Junior athlete from Xavier, Shawntell Lockington broke the high jump record in her division to claim gold in the Coke Games.
Lockington said she is happy to have fulfilled her goal of jumping over 1.66 metres.
She has even surpassed the Senior Girl’s High Jump record which currently stands at 1.65 metres.
Looking at the 800 metres finals:
In the Senior Girl’s grade, Unaisi Tinaitununa of ACS won gold while Inia Sili of Suva Grammar School won his second gold in the games, this time in the 800 metres Senior Boy’s final.
Natabua High School’s Isikeli Waseaqali took gold in the Intermediate Boy’s 800 metres final while Meresiana Vukici of Jasper claimed another gold medal in the 800 metres Senior Girls division.
Laisani Likuceva won gold for Jasper in the Junior Girls Long Jump event while Venina Turaganisolevu won gold for Jasper in the Intermediate Girl’s Javelin event.
Venina also set a new record with a throw of 40.70 metres.
Meanwhile former Tavua College student, Waisale Dausoko won his second gold medal for Natabua in the Senior Boy’s Triple Jump event.
Queen Victoria School’s Kuliniasi Baleisomosomo has secured the gold medal in the Junior Boy’s Discus.
Tevita Namuka of AD Patel Secondary settled for silver while Kautane Erasito of Marist is taking home the bronze medal.
Avikash Lal of Vishnu Deo Memorial School from Lautoka won gold in a great race in the 3,000 metres boy’s event this morning
Lekima Regu of Ratu Luke Memorial took the silver medal while Pegasus Woodley took bronze for Natabua.
Avikash Lal said he wakes up at 3am to train for an hour and then helps his dad in the farm before he goes to school every morning.
He said getting gold in the 3,000 metres event is a good start for his preparation for the Pacific Games in July in Papua New Guinea.
