Singh to file a complaint with the Police Commissioner regarding alleged police brutality

Lautoka lawyer and Fiji Labour Party’s Assistant General Secretary, Aman Ravindra Singh says he will file a complaint with the Police Commissioner by next Monday as he says he has a report of alleged Police brutality in Nadarivatu in January this year.

Singh is alleging that 9 Police Officers apprehended 9 youths at Waikubukubu Village and took them to Nadarivatu Community Police Post on January 26th this year.

He claims that the 9 youths were tortured by the Police Officers while they were seeking information on marijuana cultivation.

The Lautoka lawyer also claims that the officers also attempted to rape one of the youths. 

Singh says he was alerted about it last Friday and he is taking the statements and photographs and getting all the medical reports ready.

He confirms that he will file the complaint by Monday.

Singh says they will also give the names of the Police Officers to Commissioner, Sitiveni Qiliho.

He says what the Commissioner does after the complaint is his prerogative.

Fijivillage has sent questions to Police.

They say that they will respond to the allegations later today.
