Schools around the country have received 20% of the Term One school grant from the Ministry of Education as the Minister Doctor Mahendra Reddy said that these payments will now be made in phases.
Doctor Reddy said this decision has been taken based on the fact that government revenue is coming in phases and the schools do not need the lump sum payments on day one of the school term.
Doctor Reddy also said that the school committees need to be reasonable as the schools never received full term payments when the parents were paying for the school fees.
The 2015 National Budget has allocated around $560 million to the Education sector.
The free education programme at primary and secondary schools is continuing with an increased budget of $66.4 million.
