President Jioji Konrote has wished all Fijians well at the Fiji Day Celebrations at Albert Park this afternoon.
While making a brief statement at Albert Park, Konrote was thankful for the large turnout at the celebration and said he was also sharing the sentiments of the Prime Minister and members of parliament.
He also thanked the RFMF for the parade and presidential salute saying well done.
The Speaker of Parliament, Doctor Jiko Luveni also spoke at the Fiji Day celebration this morning.
She called on all Fijians to move forward in Unity saying the celebration illustrates government’s focus on inclusivity in all its development efforts.
She says Fiji was severely tested by TC Winston and yet out of the disaster arose a more unified Fiji with Fijians from all walks of life coming together in trying to rebuild the country.
Luveni says Fiji as a sovereign state has shown great resilience, by overcoming challenges along the way and this was only made possible by the people of this country that have called themselves Fijians and Fiji as their home.
She says the Fiji Day celebration, is not only a time of reflection of our 46 years of history as an independent nation but also envisioning a brighter future.
A colourful march started from the Flea Market to Albert Park this morning.
The march included primary and secondary school students, government officials and members of the private sector.
The march from the Flea Market to Albert was special for the students and teachers from Ro Camaisala Memorial School as this is the first time the school is part of an official Fiji Day celebration held in Suva.
School Manager Waisea Batilekaleka says the students were up early this morning and eager travel for the celebration.
Fifty three students of Ro Camaisala Memorial School proudly waved their Fiji flags through the streets of Suva as marched along with other students.
