Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho says that they are going hard on drugs as they are seriously concerned about how drugs like marijuana, methamphetamine and cocaine can affect our society and economy.
Qiliho says while they have intercepted $8 million worth of methamphetamine through the mail system this year, he believes there is much more out there.
He says the crackdown on marijuana continues as they have a case everyday however they will increase their operations at the sea ports and Nausori Airport soon to intercept the hard drugs.
The Police Commissioner says they have established that there is a local market for methamphetamine as a pack is sold for about $50.
Qiliho says they are also talking to INTERPOL and other agencies to fight the use and manufacture of hard drugs.
He says Australia and New Zealand have tightened up on their operations and it will push out to the neighbouring countries.
Qiliho says this is why they need to work hand in hand to fight this.
