The Health Ministry is concerned with the increasing number of people breaking Medication Safety standards that have been set by the Ministry.
The Chief Pharmacist of the Ministry of Health and Medical Services Apolosi Vosanibola says a lot of people are misusing medicine and sharing it with other people eventhough it is not prescribed for them.
Vosanibola says they are specifically concerned about people misusing antibiotics.
He says when antibiotics are used inappropriately this could lead to bacteria becoming resistant to the medication.
Common antibiotics that are used by households around the country are Amoxicillin and Penicillin.
Vosanibola says they have also found that some people may be sharing medicine because of the problems they face with accessibility to health centres and nursing stations.
He says they are working to strengthen accessibility in these areas.
