Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama is greatly concerned about the increase in the number of vandalism cases and student behaviour nowadays.

He highlighted this during a Talanoa Session in Nabua after the opening of the new Nabua Resource Center.

Bainimarama says that parents were concerned that corporal punishment is not used anymore because of human rights.

He says in the past some teachers used corporal punishment in the wrong way and this resulted in students getting hurt.

Bainimarama says a group of parents visited him today and expressed their concerns about students allegedly swearing at the wife of the Ratu Kadavulevu School Principal.

He says the Principal’s wife had allegedly come across a group of RKS students writing on a wall in the school premises and told them not to do so.

Bainimarama says the Principal was then alerted and investigated the issue.

He says the Principal then allegedly hit the students.

He says the case is in Police hands and he feels for the RKS Principal as he only wanted to teach these students a lesson.

Bainimarama says that he will try and find a solution to this situation as he feels that there are going to be charges laid on the Principal for corporal punishment.

The Prime Minister has urged parents to have constant engagement with their children so that they know what their children are going through.

He also raised concerns about students that ripped off bus seats and windows last week and bullying cases in QVS.

Acting Chief Intelligence and Operations ACP Vakacegu Toduadua has confirmed to Fijivillage that a formal complaint was lodged at the Korovou Police Station and they are currently investigating the matter.
