The One Fiji Party said it wants government scholarships to be allocated based on race distribution in the country.
While speaking on Straight Talk with our News Director, Vijay Narayan on our sister stations Viti FM and Radio Sargam last night, One Fiji President, Filimoni Vosarogo said that they are hoping to go into a coalition government and change the scholarship criteria.
When asked on whether they should explore the idea to have a scholarship system that is needs based and not race based as there are under-privileged students in every community, Vosarogo said this could be looked at.
However he did not specify what position they will take in their manifesto which is yet to be released.
Vosarogo also said if his party manages to form a coalition government they will change the common name Fijian.
He said there has to be a common name for every citizen of this country regardless of race however the name Fijian belongs to the indigenous people.
The One Fiji Party said they will be ready to work with any party that forms the next government.
Vosarogo also stressed that they will maintain the 15% rate of VAT in the country but will ensure that all normal household items are VAT free.
However he did not specify which items.
He also said the Great Council of Chiefs should be brought back but in a reformed version.
