Marijuana planting is one of the major problems faced by the people of Natewa Bay in the Northern side and this was raised during the 2016 National Budget Consultation with Attorney General in Labasa.

Natewa Tikina Council Chairman, Poasa Ravea told the Attorney General that government should introduce an incentive livelihood program for youth in Nuloa and Natewa.

Ravea says programs such as planting short term vegetables requires land and money as this will help the young ones get away from planting illicit drugs.

He says that he has also asked for assistance for some fishing gears for those who would want to do fishing, so that they can get away from involving themselves in criminal activities.

Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum assured Ravea that all his views have been recorded and for the betterment of the youth it will be seen in next year’s budget.

Sayed-Khaiyum also mentioned that the government is not charging any vat on solar systems.

He stressed this after a request to reduce the vat from the solar systems was made.

The Chairman also raised concerns regarding an urgent need of proper communication services.

Ravea mentioned to the Attorney general that there is no network from any of the communication service providers.

He says that when people get sick it is very hard for them to contact the nearby Health Centres.

On this the AG assured him that he will have a discussion with the different companies who provides communication services and will reach them as soon as possible.
