The Lautoka schools, Natabua High and Jasper lead the Coca Cola Games medal tally as we start off with the final day of competition of the 2015 Coca Cola Games..
Looking at the Legend FM and FM96 Medal Tally, Natabua leads with 8 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze, QVS is in second place with 5 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze, defending boy’s division champion Marist is in third place with 4 gold, 3 silver and 8 bronze while Suva Grammar School is in fourth place with 2 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze.
In the girl’s division, Jasper is leading with 10 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze, Adi Cakobau School is in second place with 3 gold, 7 silver and 6 bronze while Saint Joseph’s Secondary School is in third place with 3 gold.
24 gold medals are at stake in the boy’s division while 25 gold medals are up for grabs in the girl’s division on the final day of competition.
Each division has 16 gold medals at stake on the tracks now after the completion of the 3,000 metres event.
Meanwhile, Gospel High School sprinters, Aaron Powell and Younis Bese won gold in the Senior 100 metres events.
Powell won the 100 metres Senior Boy’s final, Josevata Lalawa of Ba Provincial took silver while Leone Nasorotabua of QVS took home the bronze medal.
Powell dedicated the win to his schoolmate who passed away and his father who is sick.
Powell also said he needed to win the blue ribbon event to prove his critics wrong.
Younis Bese took gold in the Senior girl’s 100 metres, Miriama
Naiobasali of Jasper took silver while Adi Cakobau School’s Scholastic Matagi settled for bronze.
Bese said she wanted to stamp her mark in the games as she will leave Gospel High School at the end of this year.
Bese and Powell both wore black arm bands in memory of their school mate who passed away recently.
Keasi Naidroka of Marist won the Intermediate Boy’s 100 metres while Alesi Finau of Jasper won gold in the Intermediate Girls 100 metres final.
In the Junior division 100 metres, Tyrone Chambers of Natabua won gold while Heleina Young of Saint Joseph’s Secondary School won gold in the girl’s division.
Young who was emotional after the race, dedicated the win to her aunt.
In the Sub Junior grade final, Kolinio Radrudru won gold while Salote Baravilala won gold in the Sub Junior girl’s final.
Batinisavu Uluiyata of Natabua took home the gold in the Senior Boy’s 400 metres while Alaiwalu Rayawa of Adi Cakobau School came first in the girl’s division.
Uluiyata said his win is dedicated to his late mother who passed away last year.
He hopes that he will win his 200 metres and 4x400 metres events today.
Uluiyata hopes to help Natabua take the boys title for the time to the west.
Meanwhile Alaiwalu Rayawa of ACS said she wanted to make her last year in the games count for the school.
Apolosi Koroi of QVS won the Intermediate Boy’s 400 metres while Meresiana Vukici of Jasper won the gold medal in the Intermediate Girl’s final.
Vukici said her win is dedicated to their new family member.
In the Junior division, Kameli Sauduadua of RKS won gold in the 400 metres final while Makereta Naulu of Jasper clinched the gold medal in the Girl’s Division.
Sauduadua of RKS created an upset beating Josefa Tabakaucoro of Marist and James Cox of Natabua High School.
He is aiming to win the 800 metres today.
Sakeasi Kaitu of Grammar won the gold in the Sub Junior 400 metres final while Rusiana Ratulevu of Jasper took gold in the Girl’s Division.
The 3,000 metres Girl’s Open Event gold medal went to Maria Berenadeta of Waidina Secondary School from Naitasiri this morning.
Sereana Nai of Vaturova Koroalau took the silver while Vasenai Ratu of Jasper took home the bronze.
In the 2,000 metres Boy’s Open Event, Avikash Lal of Vishnu Deo Memorial School from Lautoka won gold in a great race a while ago.
The 4x100 metres heats are currently underway while the 800 metres finals will start at 10.40am.
The 200 metres finals start at 11.40am while the finals of the 4x100 metres relays commence at 12.40pm.
The final event of the Coke Games, the 4x400 metres relay finals, will start at 2pm today.
