More than 527,000 people are expected to cast their vote at 1460 polling stations around the country.
Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem confirmed at a press conference this morning that 598 polling stations are in operation in Central division, 568 in the Western division , 274 in the Northern division and 25 in Eastern division.
Saneem also confirmed that polling started at 7.30am at various polling stations.
Saneem said it is encouraging to see that large number of people turned up to vote.
Saneem has also encouraged people to text their electronic voter registration number to 545 to find out about their polling station.
He said that some polling stations that he visited, voters were not sure whether they are at the right polling station.
Meanwhile for postal voting, Saneem said DHL is open today and if you have not received your ballot paper, contact DHL and you can return your marked ballot papers directly to the Fijian Elections Office or to DHL.
He added that ballot papers must be handed in by 6pm today.
Registered voters have 6 more hours to cast their ballot at the designated polling stations.
Meanwhile, provisional results from majority of the polling stations for the 2014 general elections will be known tonight.
Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem confirmed that live updates of the provisional results will be given out as the counting officials communicate the information from the counting stations around the country.
