Education Minister Dr Mahendra Reddy said he is not aware of the sort of investigation being carried out by Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption on the Fiji National University.
However Dr Reddy confirmed that there is no link between the investigation and the former FNU Vice Chancellor Dr. Ganesh Chand whose term has been brought to an end as of last week.
FICAC spokesperson Nandani Vandhana said the commission cannot release other details of the investigation as this will affect the integrity of the case.
Meanwhile, it was announced today that FNU’s Vice Chancellor Dr Ganesh Chand’s term has been brought to an end.
Dr Reddy announced the change in leadership at FNU confirming that Dean of the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Science Professor Ian Rouse has been appointed as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the university as of last Friday.
Dr Reddy said the FNU council agreed for a change in the Vice Chancellorship in FNU.
He said that following discussions in the council meeting for a redirection and consolidation of the university’s strategic focus, the chairperson of the University Council, the University Council and the Vice Chancellor have mutually agreed that the Vice Chancellor’s employment contract be brought to an end before the expiry.
Dr Reddy said Professor Rouse brings with him vast international experience and has to date provided excellent leadership of FNU’s College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Science.
He also said that the council notes and acknowledges the excellent contribution Dr Ganesh Chand has provided in developing FNU.
