Marist Brothers High School currently leads boys division of 2019 Coca-Cola Games

Christian Taukei wins gold for Marist in the Sub Junior Boys Shot Put

Marist Brothers High School is now leading the boys division of the 2019 Coca-Cola Games as Christian Taukei won gold for Marist in the Sub Junior Boys Shot Put in the last hour.

Marist’s Josefo Qalovi won the silver medal while Jeremaia Vukivanua of Suva Grammar School takes home the bronze medal.

Taukei says that he did not expect to win a medal and has dedicated his gold medal win to his parents and the Marist teachers.

Looking at the boys division Legend FM/FM96 Medal Tally, Marist is leading with 2 gold, 7 silver and 3 bronze medals.

RKS is in second place with 2 gold and 1 silver.

Suva Grammar School is in third place with 2 gold and 1 bronze.

Tavua College is next with 2 gold.

Visa Vakatuinaiau of RKS won the gold medal in the Sub Junior Boys Long Jump, Benjamin Joseph of Marist Brothers High School won silver while Viliame Naliva of Xavier College took out the bronze medal.

Vakatuinaiau says this is his first time to compete in the Coca-Cola Games and when he saw that Marist was leading the jump, this pushed him to give it his all to win gold.

He also dedicated the win to his mother.

Suva Grammar School is in third place on the medal tally with 2 gold and 1 bronze.

Tavua College is next with 2 gold.

Marist took the gold and silver in the Junior Boys Shot Put. Iowane Qalovi took out the gold medal while Nalani May won the silver for the boys from Flagstaff. Eroni Nabulagi of QVS took out the bronze medal.

Suva Grammar School’s Kaiava Francis has taken out the gold medal in the Intermediate Boys High Jump. Kaitu Kaitu of Marist settled for the silver medal while Suliasi Rika of Natabua High won the bronze medal.  

Francis who won bronze in the same event last year has dedicated his win to his parents, aunts and old scholars of Suva Grammar School.

Jone Seru of Tailevu North College has claimed the gold medal in the Intermediate Boys Javelin.

Jone Vosabalavu of Marist Brothers High School won the silver medal while Yavaki Naivalulevu of Cicia High School will take the bronze medal back to Lau.

Rupeni Savu of Kadavu Provincial Secondary is taking the gold medal to Kadavu after winning the Junior Boys Javelin, Sulio Naibe of Napuka Secondary School from Savusavu takes home the silver to the Hidden Paradise while Eremodo Liganivai of RKS settled for the bronze medal.

Earlier today, Tavua College student, Yeshnil Karan caused a major upset again today after he beat the favourite, Petero Veitaqomaki of Marist Brothers High School in the 3000 metres.

Karan has dedicated his win to his parents who unfortunately were not able to travel to Suva due to the weather.

The Tavua College student also won the Senior Boys 1500 metres yesterday and beat favourite, Veitaqomaki.

Karan says one of the difficulties he endured during the training was the rainy weather in Yaladro, Tavua.

He says he was confident that he will do something great.

Girls:

Adi Cakobau School is still leading the girls division of the 2019 Coca-Cola Games Legend FM/FM96 Medal Tally with 2 gold and 5 silver medals.

Saint Joseph’s Secondary School is in second place with 2 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals.

Filomena Korosaya of Saint Joseph’s won gold in the Junior Girls Discus. The silver medal went to Reap Vunidakua of RSMS while May Kaora of Saint Joseph’s takes home the bronze medal.

Jasper Williams High School is in third place with 2 gold and 1 silver and 1 bronze.

Xavier College from Ba is in fourth place with 2 gold and 1 bronze.

Shawntell Lockington of Xavier won gold in the Senior Girls High Jump in the last hour, Tuliana Tinai of Jasper took the silver medal while Josifini Tinai-rokowaqa of Grammar took the bronze medal.

Loata Nagulagi of Jasper won gold in the Intermediate Girls Shot Put, Phylippa Pickering of Saint Joseph’s Secondary School settled for the silver medal while Josifini Tinaisaqa won the bronze medal for Duavata Secondary School from Macuata. 

Rateri Matevakatini of Jasper won gold in the Senior Girls Triple Jump, Fane Sauvakacolo of Suva Grammar settled for the silver medal while Maritina Naisulu of Xavier College from Ba is taking home the bronze.

Suva Grammar School’s Senirewa Cakacaka has won the first gold medal for the Grammar girls in the Sub Junior Girls Discus.

Joy Wise of ACS won the silver medal while Faith Kukusei of Jasper is taking home the bronze medal.

Loraini Vunakece of Tailevu North College outran the favourite of the Open Girls 3000 metres event to win the first gold medal on Day 2 of the Coca-Cola Games.

Adi Cakobau School’s Camari Adilasaqa who won gold in the same event last year settled for the silver medal while Mereani Vakalolo of Seaqaqa Central College won the bronze medal.

The finals of the 100 metres, 400 metres and 800 metres will be held today.

The 800 metres finals will start at 2.30pm, the 400 metres finals will begin at 3.20pm while the 100 metres finals will start at 4pm.
