A 28-year old man from Natabua in Lautoka is believed to have drowned while trying to save 2 children at the Natadola Beach yesterday afternoon.
Police say the victim was attending a picnic with members of the Rabi Methodist Western Church group when the incident occurred.
Police say the 28 year-old noticed 2 children being swept towards the deep end and attempted to swim against the current to save them.
They say other church members managed to save the two children while the victim disappeared and was found an hour later with the help of staff from the Intercontinental Resort.
He was rushed to the Sigatoka Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The drowning death toll currently stands at 20 compared to 25 for the same period last year.
