Attorney General and Communications Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum

Attorney General and Communications Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the main reason for having no advertising and local content on Sky Pacific is to protect the free to air TV stations in the country.

Sayed-Khaiyum said the opposition is also confused after SODELPA MP, Aseri Radrodro asked Sayed-Khaiyum to reveal details on the condition of sale of Sky Pacific by Fiji TV to Digicel.

He said the government does not know the terms and conditions of the sale and purchase agreement.

Radrodro then raised the question on why there is no consideration for people in the rural areas who were only accessing Fiji One through Sky Pacific.

Sayed-Khaiyum said the opposition knows that the government made an amendment to the Media Development Authority Act to allow Digicel to buy Sky Pacific.

He stressed that the Communications Ministry has set the licence conditions to protect the free to air TV stations.
