SODELPA Leader Sitiveni Rabuka says some mischief makers had spread rumors that led to people gathering at Shirley Park yesterday morning due to rumors that SODELPA would distribute vouchers to those affected by cyclones Keni and Josie.
Rabuka says he is concerned about these mischief makers who spread rumors that his party, SODELPA would be distributing the vouchers.
He says it is unfortunate that as we head towards elections, some people find it useful to spread these rumors.
Rabuka says it is designed to confuse the public and disappoint those who turned up believing these rumors.
The President of the SODELPA Lautoka Constituency Council, Ratu Tevita Komaisavai upon being informed, personally went to Shirley Park to clear the rumors and apologise to members of the public who turned up by mistake.
Rabuka then said that it is the responsibility of every government to take the lead role, to facilitate the effective timely emergency response and rehabilitation efforts for the nation during and after disasters.
Rabuka says as leader of SODELPA, and as other registered parties, NGOs, communities, business leaders did, they also distributed some relief supplies, but this is supplementary to the primary responsibility of the government to facilitate timely and effective rehabilitation efforts and after national disasters.
