Team Fiji is taking part in a number of events at the Pacific Games today and hopes are high that they will win more gold medals.
All the four gold medals won by Fiji so far have come through weightlifters, Manueli Tulo and Tevita Tawai.
Team Fiji failed to win any gold medals on the first day of the swimming competition yesterday.
Matelita Buadromo who picked up three silver medals last night won her 200 metres freestyle heat in the last hour in a time of 2 minutes 10 seconds which is 2 seconds off the record.
She will be swimming with New Caledonia’s Lara Grangeon in the final tonight.
Tieri Erasito finished second in the same heat while Brook Smith finished in fourth place.
Fiji swimmers, Meli Malani and Paul Elaisa are also through to the 100 metres butterfly final.
Malani finished second in his heat while Elaisa came in third.
Douglas Miller won the Men’s 400m Individual Medley heat with a time of 4 minutes 55 seconds while Taichi Vakasama finished third in the same heat.
The finals of the men’s and women’s division will start at 8 tonight.
The finals of the female 50 metres backstroke, 200 metres breaststroke and 200 metres freestyle will be held tonight.
In the men’s division, the finals of the 100 metres butterfly, the 400 metres individual medley and 4x200 metres freestyle will be held tonight.
Meanwhile, the Fiji women’s basketball team will play American Samoa at 3pm today.
The Fiji men’s soccer team will play Tahiti at 4pm today while weightlifting, tennis, Va’a and Squash continues this afternoon.
Looking at the Fijivillage Pacific Games medal tally, Papua New Guinea is leading with 10 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze, Tahiti is in second place with 7 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze, Australia is in third place with 5 gold, 11 silver and 3 bronze while Fiji is in fourth place with 4 gold, 4 silver and 7 bronze medals.
