Rain bands associated with Tropical Cyclone Gita will continue to affect parts of Fiji today and tomorrow, and there is a real threat of flooding in some areas while some areas are still flooded.

The Nadi Weather Office says a heavy rain warning remains in force for Northern and Western Viti Levu which include Rakiraki, Tavua, Ba, Lautoka, Nadi and Sigatoka, and Yasawa, Mamanuca, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.

A flood warning is in force for the low lying areas, small streams and areas adjacent to Rarawai Mill in Ba to Ba Town, areas near Semo Village, and Vatutu to Nadi Town from Navo Bridge.

A flood alert remains in force for the low lying areas, small streams adjacent to Nasivi and downstream to Tavua Town, Vatukacevaceva to Rakiraki and areas downstream of Keiyasi along Sigatoka River and Votualevu to Nadi along Nadi River.

Localised heavy rain may lead to flash flooding of low lying areas.

Please note that rain is expected to ease to showers from tomorrow.

The Nadi Town Council is now consulting with relevant authorities and is monitoring the level at the Nadi River.

They are also checking the drains around the Nadi Town area.

Meanwhile, 20 Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro says their officers are visiting the affected areas.

20 houses are now affected by flood waters in Lomawai Village in Nadroga while Kavanagasau bridges are under about 1 metre of water and closed to all traffic.

Residents in Lokia in Sigatoka have said that Lokia Bridge is also underwater.

Police have also confirmed that Mataniwai Road and Yaladro Flat in Tavua which were flooded this morning are now open.

Malele Bridge in Tavua is only open to small and light vehicles as the bridge was partly damaged by flood waters.

The Nadi Back Road is clear now as flood waters have receded.

Earlier today, officers from Sabeto Police Station with officers from National Fire Authority also assisted 23-year-old Kasanita Musu and her baby.

After Kasanita delivered her baby, assistance was sought to transport her and the baby to hospital through flood waters.
