“Imam Hafiz Musa Patel always emphasized on gender equality when it came to education and sharing of properties.”

This is according to Radio Sargam Personality, Jashmin Khan who is today paying tribute to Musa Patel, one of three Fijians killed in the terror attack in Christchurch.

Musa Patel was a guest on a special Ramadhan program, Ramzan-e-mubarak on Radio Sargam for 22 years.

Khan says Musa Patel stressed in his programs that if a son is educated up to University level then the daughter of the house should also be given the same opportunity.

Khan says Musa Patel also spoke openly about sharing of properties and emphasized that the Islam religion is strict that properties should be shared equally amongst the sons and daughters in the house.

Khan adds that these teachings will always be remembered not only by the Muslim community but the non-muslims as well. She says these are the teachings that today’s generation believe in.

58-year-old Ashraf Ali who lives in Omkar in Narere and was visiting his brother in Christchurch, Imam Hafiz Musa Patel of Lautoka Jame Masjid and another, Ashraf Ali who moved to New Zealand years ago were shot and killed during the attack on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Muslim Community in Christchurch is calling on their Muslim brothers and sisters to help out with the funeral arrangements of the 50 people who lost their lives in the Christchurch terror attack.

In a statement, the Muslim Community in Christchurch say heavy manpower will be needed for the funeral services.

Here in Fiji, Mosques continue to hold special Dua ceremonies for the families that lost their loved ones in the attack.

A special place has also been set up at the Samabula Jame Masjid where people can express their condolences by placing flowers and messages.
