Based on the provisional results and on our projections, the FijiFirst will form the next government.
397,891 valid votes have been counted so far while the total number of invalid votes is yet to be revealed.
According to the provisional results the Fiji First has 239,261 votes. This is 60.13 percent of the total votes counted.
Of these votes, FijiFirst Leader Voreqe Bainimarama has 167,224 votes, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum 12,362 votes, Praveen Bala has 5,258 votes, Doctor Mahendra Reddy has 4,482 votes, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola has 4,027votes, Ruveni Nadalo has 4,017 votes, Sanjit Patel has 2,644 votes, Brij Lal has 2,583 votes, Pio Tikoduadua has 2,581 votes, Viam Pillay has 2,528 votes while Joeli Cawaki has 2,135 votes. Based on voter turnouts on international standards, FijiFirst has already achieved an absolute majority if the voter turnout for this election is 75 percent.
An absolute majority of 221,661 votes would be needed by a party if there is 75 percent voter turnout.
The FijiFirst has already surpassed this figure and currently has 239,261 votes.
If there was 75 percent voter turnout, only about 45,430 votes are left to be counted.
Even if SODELPA gets all the votes, they cannot surpass the FijiFirst and cannot achieve an absolute majority.
If the voter turnout is 80 percent which is quite large based on international standards, an absolute majority of 236,439 is required. The FijiFirst has already surpassed that figure according to the provisional results released.
The Ro Teimumu Kepa led Social Democratic Liberal Party is in second place according to the total party votes so far.
SODELPA has 106, 406 votes. This is 26.74 percent of the total votes counted.
Of these votes Ro Teimumu Kepa has 37,114 votes, Vane Seruvakula has 6,897 votes, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu has recorded 5,074 votes, Niko Nawaikula has 5,039 votes, Mosese Bulitavo has 4,457 votes, Viliame Gavoka has 3,132 votes, Ratu Viliame Tagi-ve-taua has 2,984 votes, Semesa Karavaki has 2,851, Ratu Suliano Matanitobua has 2,156 votes while Ratu Isoa Tikoca has 1,889 votes.
The third party which is just over 5 percent at the moment is the National Federation Party.
NFP has 22,446 votes.
NFP Leader, Biman Prasad has 6,931 votes, Tupou Draunidalo has 2,418 votes and Prem Singh has 1,006 votes.
The People’s Democratic Party only has 3.53 percent of the total votes so far, the Fiji Labour Party has 2.40 percent of the votes, One Fiji Party has 1.12 percent while the Fiji United Freedom Party has 0.17 percent of the votes.
Under the constitution and the Electoral Decree, a party or independent candidate needs to have 5 percent of the votes to be in the running for a parliamentary seat.
Parliamentary seats will be allocated on the proportional representation system.
