Fiji misses out on London 7s quarters after losing to NZ

The Vodafone Fiji 7s team missed out on qualifying for the quarterfinals of the London 7s after losing to New Zealand 27-22 in their third pool match.

Lack of possession, miss tackles and mistakes cost Fiji the game.

Miss tackles and an error from Amenoni Nasilasila allowed Joe Webber and DJ Forbes to score the first two tries in the first half.

Josua Vakurunabuli and Paula Draunisinukula both scored in the first half to give Fiji the lead at 14‑12 .

Sevuloni Mocenacagi received a yellow card for a dangerous tackle which allowed Lewis Ormond to score for New Zealand to lead 17-14 following the restart.

Sam Dickson was also sin binned in the second half for a high tackle against Fiji.

Miss tackle from Samu Bale caused Jesse Houston to score in the second half.

Jerry Tuwai scored in the second half but was not enough for Fiji to secure their position in the quarterfinals.

Fiji Earlier thrashed Japan in their second pool match 61-5, and lost their first pool match to Canada 27-21. 

Fiji will now take on Russia in the Challenge Trophy Quarter final at 8.52pm tonight. 

In the Cup quarter final draws tonight, USA will take on Australia at 9.58pm, New Zealand face Scotland at 10.20pm, England will play South Africa at 10.42pm while Argentina meet Canada at 11.04pm tonight. 

The medal quarterfinals start at 9.58pm tonight, the semis will be played at 1.48am tomorrow while the medal final will kick off at 4.57am tomorrow.
