The Vodafone Fiji 7s team has defeated Samoa 31-0 in their first pool match of the Sydney 7s.
Five tries was scored by the national side with two from half back Jerry Tuwai and one each from winger Savenaca Rawaca, Apisai Domolailai and captain Osea Kolinisau.
Fiji failed to win any ball from their restart in the first half and most of the time in the second half.
Coach Ben Ryan was concerned with their line speed from kick off after which they managed to reclaim two restarts in the second half.
Looking at their game against Samoa, defence would be one area that they need to improve on when they will progress into the tournament tomorrow.
Winger Sevuloni Mocenacagi also wasted two scoring opportunities when he went alone without support and a casual pass to Jasa Veremalua which resulted in a knock-on.
Ryan says they are now focusing on France.
The national side will now meet France at 3.18pm and their final pool game is against Argentina at 7.21pm today.
The Cup quarter‑finals start at 12.35pm tomorrow, the semis start at 4.57pm and the final kicks off at 8.04pm tomorrow.
