Fiji Television Limited is now looking for office space for their headquarters due to tenancy related issues with their current landlord.
Fijivillage has received confirmation that the lawyers of the owner of the building, Fiji Public Service Credit Union had earlier given a notice for Fiji TV to vacate their building in Suva by this Sunday.
Based on an assessment, Fiji TV needs almost 6 months to move all it’s broadcasting and transmission gear to a new building.
The clock is ticking and we have received information that Fiji TV has not secured new office space as yet.
Reliable sources have confirmed to us that Fiji TV has reduced their office space from five to two floors following an internal restructure.
However the landlord is demanding an increase in rent.
We have also received confirmation that the Water Authority of Fiji is now occupying two floors and may take more office space in the building.
Fiji TV has been in the building since 1994.
Lawyers for Fiji Public Service Credit Union have confirmed to us that the lease agreement with Fiji TV expired last year.
They say Fiji TV has not renewed the lease and the television company is now a monthly tenant only.
The lawyers say Fiji TV has been advised to look for a new place as they are not agreeing to the new rent.
It has been stressed that they will have to move if they do not enter into a revised rental agreement.
The lawyers confirm that they had issued the notice to Fiji TV to vacate the building by this Sunday however they withdrew the notice as further negotiations took place between the Fiji Public Service Credit Union and Fiji TV.
The matters are now with the lawyers.
FPSCU’s lawyers are now waiting for further instructions as we have been told that the talks have reached a deadlock.
We have contacted Fiji TV’s Chief Executive Officer, Geoffrey Smith on the issue.
He says the company will comment on the matter later today.
CEO of Fijian Holdings Limited which is the majority shareholder of Fiji TV, Nouzab Fareed, is currently out of the country and could not be reached for a comment.
