The Fiji Swimming team failed to win any gold medals in the first set of finals in the Pacific Games last night.
Matelita Buadromo settled for silver in the women’s 400m individual medley and the 100m freestyle while Caroline Puamau finished in third place in the 100m freestyle.
Rosemary Rova finished in fourth place in the women’s 400m individual medley.
New Caledonia’s Lara Grangeon broke the Pacific Games women’s 400m individual medley record with a new time of 4 minutes 47 seconds.
The old time was 4 minutes 49seconds.
Fiji also collected a silver medal in the women’s 4x100m freestyle.
Fiji’s William Clarke finished in 4th place in the 50m men’s Backstroke, Taichi Vakasama finished 6th in the 100m men’s Breaststroke while in the 4x100m men’s Freestyle relay, Fiji finished 4th.
Swimming will continue at midday today.
The finals of the men’s and women’s division will start at 8 tonight.
The finals of the female 50 metres backstroke, 200 metres breaststroke and 200 metres freestyle will be held tonight.
In the men’s division, the finals of the 100 metres butterfly, the 400 metres individual medley and 4x200 metres freestyle will be held tonight.
Meanwhile, the Fiji women’s basketball team beat Solomon Islands 93-53 last night.
They will play American Samoa at 3pm today.
The Fiji women’s Va’a team settled for bronze in the 1,500m V6.
In soccer, the Fiji women’s team was thrashed by PNG 5-1 yesterday.
They will meet Cook Islands at 12.30pm tomorrow.
In the women’s team event for Tennis, Fiji beat Tahiti while the Fiji men’s Squash team beat Tahiti 6-0.
In Table Tennis, the Fiji men’s team finished fourth.
New Caledonia won gold.
Looking at the Fijivillage Pacific Games medal tally, Papua New Guinea is leading with 8 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze, Tahiti is in second place with 7 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze, Fiji is now in third place with 4 gold, 4 silver and 7 bronze medals while New Caledonia is in fourth place with 4 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals.
The Fiji men’s soccer team will play Tahiti at 4pm today while weightlifting continues from midday today.
