The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team thumped France 50-0 in their first game of the Cape Town 7s.

Fiji started off slowly with slippery conditions greatly affecting the players mobility.

Waisea Nacuqu scored Fiji’s first try under the posts in the 3rd minute while Aminiasi Tuimaba scored 2 tries giving Fiji a lead of 21-0 going into half time.

Coach Gareth Baber stressed that they needed to communicate more in the second half of the game.

Coming into the second half, Fiji showed more vigor and speed as Vilimoni Botitu scored Fiji’s first try in the second half from a stray pass from Vatemo Ravouvou.

Captain Kalione Nasoko broke the French defence with sheer speed and power in the second minute giving Fiji a lead of 31-0.

Speedster Alosio Naduva took on two French defenders in the far left corner in the fourth minute to score Fiji’s 6th try adding to Fiji’s lead 38-0.

Meanwhile, former skipper, Jerry Tuwai scored 2 tries in the fifth minute and a minute into injury time to hammer in Fiji’s win and also scoring his 100th try in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series becoming a centurion.

In other matches, Spain defeated Argentina 35-12, USA thumped Japan 54-0, and South Africa defeated Samoa 22-12.
