24-year-old Joshua Aziz Rahman was found in possession of 39.5kg of cocaine in Caubati on the 14th of February

The father of the man who was allegedly found in possession of 30 million dollars worth of cocaine in Caubati last month, is now held in custody in New Zealand.

It is alleged that 24-year-old Joshua Aziz Rahman was found in possession of 39.5kg of cocaine in Caubati on the 14th of February.

Rahman’s lawyer, Ashniel Nadan told the Suva High Court that Rahman is a business consultant by profession and came to visit his father from Canada on the 31st of December last year.

Nadan says that the house in which the cocaine was allegedly found is rented by Rahman’s father.

Nadan told Justice Daniel Goundar that Rahman was arrested in Nadi on the 12th of February and the search was conducted at the house in Caubati on the 14th of February.

He also says that the cocaine was found in the father’s bedroom adding that Rahman did not know about the drugs.

Nadan added that when Rahman was arrested, his father was in New Zealand.

Assistant DPP Dr. Andrew Jack has objected to bail saying that Rahman has limited ties to Fiji and travels frequently.

Justice Goundar then asked Jack as to how Rahman became a person of interest in the case to which Jack said it was based on information received from international agencies.

Jack says that Rahman told police that in his father’s absence, he was the caretaker of the property.

Justice Goundar will deliver his bail ruling in the case of Joshua Aziz Rahman next Wednesday.
