The Fiji Roads Authority has made it clear that they have extended their instructions to their contractors; China Railway First Group, China Railway Fifth Group and Fulton Hogan Hiways that all roadworks are to be put on hold during peak hours from 6am to 9.30am and from 4pm to 6pm.
Fijivillage has raised the question on why roadworks continue at about 7.30am on Kings Road in Kinoya as this is peak traffic time and has been adding on to the traffic jam.
A machine was also occupying one of the lanes on Monday morning which caused a huge traffic jam.
Traffic jam caused by the roadworks at the Kinoya traffic lights
FRA says following their review, the roads that have had its roadwork pattern changed effectively are Princes Road, Nabua Roundabout, Ratu Mara Road to Kinoya Lights, Nakasi to Nausori Roundabout.
The Authority says it has changed the working patterns for at least until the 14th of November to make sure that there are no disruptions going forward, especially for the school students.
However, roadworks continued at 5.15 yesterday afternoon at the Kinoya traffic lights.
We have contacted FRA about the contractors not listening to their directive and continuing with the roadworks during peaks traffic time.
FRA is now looking into the issue.
