“The objective of scaling is not to pass failing students.”
These are the words of Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts, Dr. Mahendra Reddy who has announced that a review will be carried out on the current scaling system in Fiji’s External Examination.
Dr. Reddy said they have been receiving a lot of complaints and have decided that people should know what is happening.
He added that the purpose of the review is to ascertain whether the intended objective is met by the existing scaling process and formula of the Ministry of Education.
The report will also be made public.
The three member review team will include University of the South Pacific Professor and Head of Economics, Satya Paul who according to Dr. Reddy has good understanding of the scaling mechanism used in Australia.
The review team will also include Professor Subhash Chandra who has extensive experience in the field of Education and USP Associate Professor of Mathematics, Jito Vanualailai.
