Initial assessments on the damage caused by Category 1 Tropical Cyclone Mona are expected to start later today in the Northern Division as 1,767 people are still staying in the 27 evacuation centres there.

Outpatient Services at the Labasa Hospital have also resumed.

The heavy rain experienced in the Northern Division yesterday caused flooding in some areas and the focus of the assessments that will be carried is to check whether that flooding caused some damage.

The main road through Daku in Savusavu was affected by sea flooding causing the road to be inaccessible yesterday.

Several homes near the Savusavu Airport were also affected by flooding.

We have been speaking to businessman Satya Nand who says flood waters entered his shop and home as it rained from early Sunday morning until the evening.

In the Eastern Division, teams have been set up awaiting instructions for initial damage assessment and ration distribution.

2,104 people are currently taking shelter in 40 Evacuation Centers around Fiji.

An additional three evacuation centres have been activated in Vanuabalavu.

Police officers have activated the evacuation centres for families that are located on coastal lines as a precautionary measure.

Fiji Airways has also confirmed that all their domestic and international flights will be operating as normal from today.

Commissioner Eastern Luke Moroivalu confirmed to Fijivillage that there is heavy rain currently being experienced in most part of the Lau Group.

Moroivalu says that his office is in contact with village headmen and district officers in the different islands in Lau.

Areas that are mostly affected by rain includes Vanua Vatu, Oneata, Moce, Komo, Kabara, Namuka-i-Lau, Fulaga and Ogea

Moroivalu says they have been informed that there are strong winds at times but there has no reports of damage to houses.
