Concerned citizens file complaint against FBC TV CEO Riyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum

Three concerned citizens filed a complaint against FBC TV CEO Riyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum at the Totogo Police Station yesterday.

Kris Prasad, Ben Daveta and Seini Nabou each filed a complaint about comments which Riyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum made at a press conference last Friday about people who had raised concerns on social media about the content of FBC TV's Wasea Bhasha shows.

The FBC TV CEO had said "Well I'd rather not comment about idiots" when he was asked at the press conference about those making comments on social media about the content of the Wasea Bhasha show.

Kris Prasad who was one of the concerned citizens who filed a complaint believes that the FBC TV CEO has further incited communal antagonism by making those comments.

Another concerned citizen, Ben Daveta says he filed a complaint because he felt that it was wrong for the CEO of a state‑owned broadcaster to be making such comments against taxpayers.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirms that the reports were filed at the Totogo Police Station and that they are investigating the matter.

Meanwhile the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has confirmed that they have received the file from the police on allegations of inciting communal antagonism through the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation programme, Wasea Bhasha.

The DPP's Office says the allegations are against former FBC Wasea Bhasha producer and host Nemani Bainivalu, the acting Chief Executive Officer Vimlesh Sagar and the acting Manager Technical Expert TV, Mohammed Faiyaz Khan.

The office says that the file will be reviewed in the normal manner and the DPP, Christopher Pryde will make a decision on what charges, if any, following the review.
