Australian PM to arrive into Fiji at 11.30am today for bilateral talks with PM Voreqe Bainimarama

It is a historic today as the Australian Prime Minister is coming to Fiji to have the first ever Australia-Fiji bilateral talks with Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama in our country.

Scott Morrison will arrive into the country at 11.30am today at Nausori Airport.

A traditional welcome ceremony will be held for the Australian Prime Minister at Grand Pacific Hotel at 12.30pm.

Morrison will then pay a courtesy call to the President, Jioji Konrote at Borron House at 3 this afternoon.

Morrison’s wife, Jenny will be accompanied by Mary Bainimarama and Australian High Commissioner’s wife, Alison Feakes to the Fiji Museum Gallery where Mrs Morrison will be presented with a gift.

A bilateral meeting between Bainimarama and Morrison will commence at 3.45pm at the Office of the Prime Minister.

At 3.50pm, Mrs Bainimarama, Mrs Morrison, Mrs Feakes and the Health Minister, Doctor Ifereimi Waqainabete will tour the CWM Children’s Ward.

The Australian Prime Minister will then attend a Wreath Laying Ceremony at the National War Memorial in Veiuto at 5 this afternoon before attending a welcoming reception and official dinner hosted by Prime Minister Bainimarama at Grand Pacific Hotel at 7 tonight.

While in Fiji, Morrison will also deliver a speech at the University of the South Pacific at 9.30am tomorrow and conduct site visits to APTC, Fiji National University Campus and the Blackrock Project in Nadi.

Former Prime Minister John Howard was the last Australian Prime Minister in Fiji in 2006 for a meeting of the Pacific Islands Forum.

Meanwhile Police Chief of Operations Maretino Qiolevu that there will be no complete road closure today for the Australian Prime Minister’s visit.

Qiolevu says that the roads will only be closed when and if the need arises to let the motorcade pass through.
