Education Minister, Doctor Mahendra Reddy said any proposals to have hidden security cameras in schools will have to be considered by the Ministry.
This follows the statement by the Fiji Muslim League Nasinu Branch President, Pashir Hamad that the Nasinu Muslim College management has decided to install hidden security cameras around its school premises to monitor student movement and activities.
Hamad said the cameras are being installed because students are taking advantage of the Ministry of Education’s zero-tolerance policy on corporal punishment.
The cameras will be installed in the next few weeks and will be fully functional by the beginning of Term One next year.
The Education Minister said they are yet to receive a proposal.
Doctor Reddy said the status quo remains for now until any other decision is made by the Ministry of Education.
