Minister for Health Doctor Ifereimi Waqainabete has confirmed that a few doctors had to be disciplined through the Ministry of Civil Service because of poor communication, not making right decisions and not having the right attitude.

Waqainabete highlighted this at the Induction and Orientation Workshop, where he reminded 83 new doctors that they will always have to practice professionalism and efficiency in their profession.

He says that because of these reasons, doctors were disciplined.

The Minister also highlighted that he loves negative feedbacks.

He says the implementation of the national health call centre provides a convenient way for patients and the public to provide feedback of their services whether it be positive or negative.

Waqainabete says it saddens him to hear reports of doctors and medical professionals who are rude, or perceived to be uncaring in their dealing with patients.

Waqainabete says Fiji has 815 doctors.

When questioned by Fijivillage if the induction of these new doctors will cater for the shortage of doctors in Fiji, Waqainabete says that Fiji has improved its numbers in terms of doctor to patient ratio.

The Minister also says the doctors in the past were paid much less than what the current interns get.
