Three more people who allegedly harboured prison escapee Deshwar Dutt will be produced in the Nadi Magistrates Court today.
They are charged with Harboring a Prisoner at Large.
This brings the number of people alleged to have assisted Dutt during his escape to eight.
A businessman and a priest have already appeared in court for allegedly assisting Dutt as well as Dutt’s wife and lawyer.
A Corrections Officer was also charged for allegedly helping Dutt escape.
Police Chief of Operations ACP Rusiate Tudravu had earlier stressed that police will ensure that the people who assisted Dutt will be brought to justice.
He says the Criminal Investigation team in the Western Division will continue its investigation in this matter as it believes that there are others who had been assisting Dutt during his time on the run.
Tudravu says Deshwar Dutt was on the run for a total of 19 days which proves that a number of people had assisted him during his escape.
Dutt appeared in a special sitting in the Nadi Magistrates Court on Saturday charged with two counts of Aggravated Robbery, one count of Aggravated Burglary and Theft and one count of Escaping from Lawful Custody and Serious Assault.
