Three men charged for the murder of a 46‑year‑old fisherman at Lokia Landing in Nausori last Sunday morning appeared in a special court sitting at the Nausori Magistrates Court this afternoon.
Waisea Motonivalu, Eroni Raivani and Niko Baleiwairiki are each charged with one count of murder and one count of aggravated robbery.
Baleiwairiki was the only accused that asked for legal aid assistance while the other two waived their right to counsel.
The charges were read in court to the three accused persons and they said that they understood the charges.
The three men have been remanded in custody.
The case has been transferred to the Suva High Court and will be called on the 20th of this month.
It is alleged that the three men brutally assaulted the victim before stealing the 15hp Yamaha outboard engine.
They were taken into custody on Wednesday night after police recovered a stolen 15hp Yamaha outboard engine.
A group of girls who went to get some dalo leaves found the man with visible injuries on Sunday.
They called for help and the man was taken to the Nausori Health Centre where he passed away.
