25 complaints of people impersonating Fiji Revenue and Customs Service officers are currently being investigated by Police and the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service.
This has been confirmed by Chief Executive Visvanath Das who says these cases have been personally received by his office.
He says they are working with the Police Commissioner’s taskforce to investigate the cases.
Das says people should not engage in business over phone calls or reveal tax information before verifying the identity of the Revenue and Customs officer.
A fourth impersonator has been arrested by Police with the assistance of the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service.
Das says Navin Chaudhry who is an ex‑convict from Namadi Heights impersonated a Revenue and Customs officer and called Fiji Minimart yesterday afternoon and told the company they were going to be audited.
He says the impersonator further advised the staff that the audit can be cancelled if they pay him cash.
Das says the targeted company called their officers and with the help of Police arrested Navin Chaudhry in Caubati yesterday.
He says despite the recent arrests of previous impersonators, people continue to fool businesses.
Three people were charged and produced in court last week for impersonating Fiji Revenue and Customs Service officers.
